toshiko rubi slowships This album's strength lies in its powerful songwriting delivered with sweet, milky vocals and intimate, masterful production work. Vocal harmonies and melodies are layered so wonderfully with playful depth and subtlety – check out Limberjack! Sean of Obscura Hail's lyrical style is very beautiful: in 'Laces' he sings about everyday seemingly mundane things like having accidentally let the cat out without its collar and juxtaposes that with a blazing, powerful observation on the nobility of beasts: 'oh to be born with fangs and an understanding that death is a gift we give ourselves.' I love writers who tell us about very specific things in their writing (like tying ones shoelaces as the dog sighs) and then is able to take a step back and frame all of it within wider observations/feelings on the human experience and the beauty of being alive. Pallbearer is able to achieve this difficult feat. There is humor, sweetness, and an existential reaching out to ideas of love, family, and place in this beautiful album. Favorite track: Laces.

Overview 03:55
I’m peering through the thinnest glass at creatures in the distance their images are from the past they’ve traded beds for bridges though I am hardly within reach to ever make a difference my mind is surely kin to each and everyone that hears this I cannot fear anything I am made of everything I miss my human counterparts I miss my human body emotional and riddled with disease a collective memory
3.
Bad Math 04:14
I received a box of teeth from a good old friend at a closing dentistry after their final appointment I must be givin' off a killer vibe, if you know what I mean death is a curious thing and there's something cool about stuff that gives you the creeps I used to skate the park behind stockland, Nowra before they tore it down to build something better fuck it, there were too many tiny rocks, I always skinned my knees we scanned for those suckers, like metal detectors swept the concrete with rubber feet oh hey my brother just had a baby Bad Math ye'know, somewhere in Gwynneville, there's a jar of his urine that we had hidden, beneath a garden bed I hope that years now it is found, and seen as a relic, maybe they'll clone him, maybe they'll leave it Alice will learn to breath a different kind of air and I'll perish in time oh I've only seen your picture, but I already love you, you're my family, I'm your uncle your tiny fingers will break if I squeeze too hard, oh that's frightening what kind of god would be so cruel Bad Math Bad Math oh I've only seen your picture, but I already love you, you're my family, I'm your uncle
4.
Laces 05:06
I left the front door open the cat escaped without it’s collar my friends won’t hear him coming oh to be born with fangs and an understanding that death is a gift we give ourselves turned pale from the nicotine the body sways from the beer poured generously white knuckles knock my front door, and I feel like a stranger The lights on in the kitchen tea is made and pills are taken I check the clock that’s always broken my pulse, no longer racing, I shut my eyes and bend the knee Laces tied, and the dog sighs, but I’m not leaving yet
5.
Sacrifice 06:49
our baby girl is teething your breast becoming tender from the feeding she will raise the babes in cryostasis and when she comes of age, will do her duty this island in the darkness known to us, all our lives* built by the hands of martyrs whom were left behind with dragons heat we're breathing an atmosphere designed with sacred geometry, by artificial kind just beyond our quarters are the seedlings to one day fill the valley they described 6 ft undferneath us, lay remains of our ancestors whose nutrients are keeping us alive with dragons teeth we're chasing a frontier that's sublime the future of our species is owed to fewer minds than those who are still sleeping we'll meet when we arrive
6.
Urn 01:51
I don't shower for days at a time but when I do it's for an hour I pull back the covers and pretend for a while that there's safety in secrecy the gaps too wide, I've made up my mind I'm leaving
7.
Duke 02:08
Don’t you worry the nukes are comin, they’re here to solve the overpopulation It’s a wonder, how we got this far (considering we’re made from stars) Rest assured that your stocks and savings will feed somebody elses cravings maybe, one day, we’ll stop hating and start hangin’ out in foreign bars
8.
Absolute 03:31
Love doesn't wait, when we're practicing patience as the taste hits the palette, we put it all in our mouths the flavour will change us if we don't spit it out clinging to logic and the reach of our brains won't let the magic make home of a house take it or leave it, we all share a doubt but when a moment has stained us, we can't wash it out in love we could not have known how to stand our ground if our heads weren't so heavy with a thorning crown now I know what you meant by getting better internet though we can't predict the speed, it's a connection that you wanted, and the video games were just vessels to be haunted by the silent agreement that we're drifting on a planet informed by a spirit talking through a pattern with an absolute truth, relatively scattered sometimes transparent in the people we love I know this now, because I've seen it myself in love we could not have known how to make a sound if our ears were not ringing from the barking hound Love doesn't wait, when we're practicing patience the flavour will change us if we don't spit it out, the flavour will change us if we don't spit it out

Faint Glow 03:42
Sippin on the red wine yes I love it, my friends say I do it all the time It ain't easy taking care of your body when all these unhealthy ideas of how we live are growing, growing it makes me sick to think the human race is broken convinced that we did it to ourselves by doing it to somebody else we forgot how to love learned how to learn how to make love I'm talking from a treehouse where my things are all laid out all the scenery nobody else can climb inside my body I may as well be dead gotta get my forklift
10.
VIdeo Easy 02:43
I feel like a diamond in the rough forged way back when earth lay in sin like a pearl from the deep some pretty thing would wear Like the most shiny thing at which everyone stares all this because you glanced at me There I was, as a figure of speech just a jerk you would meet at the back of the blockbuster line oh too afraid to ask what you’re hirin’ this evenin’, and if you would mind mind watchin’ a movie with me sometime

Come Down 05:38
Can we put it to bed? hide the money underneath the mattress can't we forget where forgiving is dependent? can we put it to bed? tuck it in with a kiss on the forehead? take a photo, that's cute, I wanna share it I only want to capture this moment, I only want to capture this moment

about

Pallbearer is a collection of existential bedroom recordings created during the lonely hours, for the sake of gaining long needed closure after the loss of a family member; a naively optimistic translation of grief in all stages, through blissful dissociation, acceptance of fate, and personal epiphany.

The album reflects the hands of Sun Kil Moon, the heart of Sufjan Stevens, the method of 'Elliot Smith, and the harmonic sisterhood of the Roches.

Dealing with death through delicate, anecdotal nostalgia, alone.
-------------------------------------------

Dedicated to my late grandfather, Ted Conran (1932 - 2014)
and to Tamara, for seeing, for understanding, for accepting, and for loving.
